About
paris cian (1996) is an interdisciplinary artist and curator native to and living in New Orleans, LA. Working across installation, public art, painting, sculpture, and performance art, her practice mobilizes embodied memory, sustainability, and devotion. Through processes of the poetic, she composes with impermanence, the weather, and Black memory. Informed by Black girlhood and spatiality, cian’s practice lives within the choreography of worldmaking, repetition, and the non-linear. Her obsessions offer inquiry to transformation and questions of urgency. Performance exhibitions/installations, practices, and organizing include: 2026 Joan Mitchell Artist in Residence, 2024 Climate Crisis A Studio in the Woods Resident, 2024 Atlantic Center for the Arts Artist in Residence, The Small Center for Collaborative Design, T.Lang Dance, Liberated Planet Studio, The Black School, Contemporary Arts Center New Orleans, Krannert Art Museum Illinois, Saint Heron, and BlackGirlGeniusWeek/SOLHOT. paris cian received her BFA/BA in Dance with a concentration in social justice, gender women’s studies from Hollins University (2018) and MFA in Choreography at Roehampton University, London, U.K (2021).
